My thought is since the AR's are the placeholders for the missing racial AR variants (GLU = Rail Rifle, GEK = Combat Rifle), does this mean that the Combat Rifle will be the new all powerful greater than all weapon? Do you feel that CCP will be able to balance it well when the Combat Rifle is implemented into the game? My goodness, why does everyone think that the AR's are placeholders and that the Rail Rifle will be like the tactical AR's? This is incorrect.
1. The AR's variants are not placeholders. They will continue to exists once the other racial AR's are released, but may be slightly tweaked.
2. The Rail Rifle is going to be more like a long range breach AR. The Combat Rifle is going to be a faster burst AR. The scrambler rifle is already the superior tactical AR.
And that said, come at with your GEK's - I'll be waiting over here with my CRW's. |

Scheneighnay McBob wrote:And you have the racial variants wrong, combat rifles are supposedly burst ARs. Every racial AR with have an assault variant, which will be extremely similar to a GEK This is correct, and in fact every racial AR will have not only an assault variant, but a breach, burst, and tactical variant as well. The design on this is that each race will be the best at one of them - Gallente with assault, Amarr with tactical, Minmatar with burst, and Caldari with breach. |

Scramblers are too short-ranged to be tactical. They were also announced before devs said that the current ARs are placeholders, so there's a good chance there isn't an AR equivalent. Plasma rifles will be breach ARs. I'm sorry, but you are incorrect. Proof right here, https://forums.dust514.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=870299#post870299
The current ARs are not placeholders per CCP Remnant's word. The Scrambler Rifle is the designed superior tactical variant. The "Gallente Assault Rifle" we have now is the plasma rifle.
CCP Remnant wrote:They won't be removed, no, but they will be tweaked slightly. The idea being that each race will have it's base variant be Assault, (Gallente) Burst (Minmatar), Breach (Caldari) or Tactical (Amarr) and then the variants are a specific race's take on the others using their own tech. So, you'd get an Assault Rail Rifle that attempts to somewhat mimic the behavior of the Gallente Assault Rifle and a Tactical Assault Rifle that attempts to mimic the Amarr Scrambler Rifle and so on.
